LAURENCE JENKELL OR HOW TO FLUSH OUT THE UNUSUAL OF THE BANAL

A quest for the real, certainly, yet also a spectacular unreality, and a new beauty – this is how one might be tempted to define the art of Laurence Jenkell, who brilliantly joined the international contemporary art scene, supported in this adventure by the incredible and extraordinary global organization of the Opera Galleries that enable an artist to be shown simultaneously in Paris, New York, Miami, Hong-Kong, Singapore, Seoul, Dubai, Geneva, Monaco and London!

It is difficult not to think of the overlap of memory, of childhood candies, and of the observation of a reality truer than nature, when considering the sculptures of this artist from the South of France.

She readily established herself on “the other side of art,” operating a genuine ritual transfer in which the edible sweets become art. What she is offering today, after assuming the preambles of research, is a candy, yet closely affiliated to the sphere of Pop Art, and represented in an oversized shape – a candy that fundamentally exists only in her imagination. In the great tradition of contemporary practice, Laurence Jenkell will draw a serial organization from that concept, making colors vibrant within matter.

The young artist, however, is clearly not trapped by her own formulas; she can magnificently overtake them despite a deliberately basic symbology. She will indeed continue to surprise both collectors and audiences.
